A variegated tree in the 'matsumurae' group. Makes an unusual addition to the landscape for the maple-aholic. Has large leaves and a good texture. Spring color is rich orange-red and lasts well into summer. Leaves turn a rich purplish brown with small irregular spots resembling sprinkled sand.
Hence the name for this type of variegation - sunago fu or sand dusted. Colors intensify towards the fall with midrib contrasting nicely staying yellow-green. Fall colors are oranges, reds and yellows.
Tree is upright growing to 22-25 feet with a rounded head shape. Plants are 12-18" tall.
